The farm auction is a wonderful experience...don't be afraid that it may be a sad situation...most aren't. These folks had sold their farm and were selling the barn piece by piece at a very good profit. It also benefits the community of farmers, whether they are "Gentleman Farmers" or Full Time Farmers. Mary and I took a trip up to see her family in the Shenandoah Valley and in West Viriginia. Thankfully her family loves hunting for treasures as much as we do. Her sister Melanie told us about a farm auction taking place near her parents house...we took the winding foothill roads and found the farm full of trucks and suv's... Note* Don't take a picture during an auction...the auctioneer thought I was bidding ! Nearly bought myself some kitchen cabinets! Us city women sort of stuck out in the crowd. Mary picked up this awesome horse color...real farmers don't want things like this...they are there for the practical pieces that will enhance their farms. I won the bid on a "lot" of horse yokes...ended up with 8..Mary got the large one as a project for her very talented husband Lloyd... Melanie says "Hey Camille, see that guy in the flannel shirt and the hat?"...I said "They all have flannel shirts and hats!" We laughed WAY too loud...! I've always tried to incorporate unique tools into my kitchen...Sure I could use a "brand spanking new" gadget from the store...or I could find a vintage piece that just works great and lends a beautiful aesthetic to my home. Brass Corkscrew made in Italy and monogrammed in an elegant script. A Vintage Brass Greek Pepper Mill There's nothing like the chippy ice you get from this vintage ice tray! A vintage porcelain gravy separator made in France...make the most mundane task seem special.
Are you hunting for a special kitchen gadget or tool? Let me know and so I can keep my eye out for you! Next week I will be going on a shopping trip through the mountains of West Virginia..I'll be sure to find lots of goodies and pics to share with you! Camille |
